He birdied the first and fourth holes to get his name up the leaderboard, but back-to-back birdies at eight and nine put himself in strong position for his first Nationwide Tour victory.

 

The 36-hole cut came at one-under-par 141 with 63 players making it to the weekend.

 

Paula Creamer (72), the highest ranked player in the field at world No. 7, shares fifth place at minus-four with Suzann Pettersen (71), Jeong Jang (72) and defending champion Jee Young Lee (73).

 

Hong was steady over the opening nine holes. She rolled in an 18-foot birdie putt on the par-four second to move to five-under. Hong made the turn at minus-six thanks to her second birdie in two days on the par-five eighth at Mauna Ocean Golf & Resort.
