Capitals re-sign D Schultz to 4-year, $11M deal

WASHINGTON (AP) -Defenseman Jeff Schultz has agreed to a four-year, $11 million contract to remain with the Washington Capitals.

The deal was announced Wednesday afternoon.

The 24-year-old Schultz led the NHL last season with a plus-50 rating and had a team-high 129 blocked shots. He had three goals and career highs of 20 assists and 23 points in 73 games.

Schultz, the Capitals' first-round choice - 27th overall - in the 2004 entry draft, was a restricted free agent and had filed for salary arbitration prior to Monday's deadline.

Washington also signed defenseman Brian Fahey to a one-year contract and agreed to a two-year deal with left wing Kyle Greentree.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004.
