Teixeira to miss time for birth of child

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Teixeira doesn't know how much time he will miss, but he could skip both games of the upcoming series against the Rangers in Arlington.

After the two-game set in Texas, the Yankees visit Kansas City for four games this weekend.

Teixeira is batting .259 with a team-best 26 homers and 85 runs batted in this season. He has been particularly hot of late with five homers in his last seven games.

Newly-acquired Lance Berkman will likely fill in for Teixeira at first base.
